TILTING PAD BEARINGS

Tilting pad journal bearings are designed to provide superior load carrying capacity in heavy-duty rotating machinery. These bearings feature individual pads that are free to tilt, allowing them to conform to the shaft and maintain a stable oil film under varying load conditions. This design offers several advantages over traditional fixed profile bearings, including:

  • Increased load capacity

  • Improved stability at high speeds

  • Reduced sensitivity to load direction and misalignment

  • Optimized lubrication for minimum power loss and pad temperature

Tilting Pad Thrust Bearings are designed to support heavy axial loads in rotating machinery. Similar to tilting pad journal bearings, these bearings feature individual pads that can tilt to maintain a stable oil film and distribute load evenly. Tilting pad thrust bearings offer several benefits over conventional thrust bearings, including:

  • Exceptional axial load capacity

  • Superior stability under varying load conditions

  • Reduced friction and wear

  • Extended bearing life

Tilting pad thrust bearings are available in a wide range of materials to meet the demands of various applications. Common material choices include steel/babbitt, steel/bronze, bronze/babbitt, CuCr/babbitt, CuCr/AlSn40, and PEEK. Alternate materials are also available upon request.

Applications

Tilting pad bearings are used in a wide variety of heavy-duty rotating machinery applications, including:

  • Gas and steam turbines

  • Compressors

  • Expanders

  • Pumps

  • Turbo gearboxes
